Alex Cameron Psychologist

Rational-Emotive & Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (RE-CBT) Therapist, Supervisor, and Trainer

Promoting excellence in CBT education and practice

My main goal working in the field of psychology is to help you improve the way you manage adversity in your life. We all face problems in some form or another and I believe improving your philosophy of life can help you to have better psychological health despite your circumstances. My experience is that psychological therapy is best done when it is both educational and collaborative, problem-focussed and solution-oriented. I also like to bring a sense of humour to my work with my clients where possible and appropriate.

Background and Training
Over the past 10 years I have gained psychotherapy experience in occupational rehabilitation, community outreach/disability, a private psychiatric hospital providing group therapy for in- and outpatients, and private practice where I have seen a range of individuals from children, teens, adults, and older adults with varying degrees of problems and disorders for assessment and therapy.

Within the last decade I have accrued hundreds of hours of extracurricular training in Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy (REBT) - the pioneering form of CBT - through the Australian Institute for REBT (AIREBT) based in Melbourne (aka CBT Australia). My training saw me visit the Albert Ellis Institute - where CBT was founded in the early 1950s by Dr Albert Ellis (often referred to as the "Grandfather of CBT”) - based in New York City in 2018. Here, I became an Associate Fellow of the Institute and was approved as a RE-CBT therapist, supervisor, and trainer after years of going through a rigorous supervision process myself. I remain closely affiliated with the AIREBT/CBT Australia where I now supervise and train participants in the practice of RE-CBT at professional development workshops that routinely run several times per year.

I am passionate about providing accurate education about what CBT is and what it is not. I am also avid in my practice of REBT and have tirelessly devoted myself to promoting its distinctive properties from the other CBTs and as the originating form of CBT with my colleagues, peers, interns, clients, and GPs.
